Community and Events

Here at Macy's Logistics and Operations we strongly believe in giving back to those cities that have sustained us over the years. Below are some of the community initiatives developed in support of our efforts:

Employee Volunteer Opportunities

Our nationally recognized Partners in Time employee volunteerism program allows all associates - as well as their families - to serve their neighbors through meaningful and fun group projects. Partners in Time activities are carefully structured and organized so they make the best use of our employees' time as they strive for balance in their lives. Partners projects span a range of interests, with areas of special concentration including women's issues, children and education, HIV/AIDS and supporting our national food banks.

In 2005, more than 2,000 associates and their families and friends volunteered more than 4,500 hours of time to a myriad of Partners projects, including:

  • A Bag Hunger food drive, held concurrently in all Macy's, Inc. operations nationwide, as part of the Partners in Time nationwide "Series of Service." In 2006, we collected more than 282,000 pounds of food! That's almost 90 pounds of food per Macy's Logistics and Operations associate!

  • Community Sponsorships such as United Way support, emergency response efforts, hospital and nursing home volunteer services, projects to support our troops and the adoption of community schools to offer mentoring and tutoring services.

  • Health Education & Awareness Events such as Walk-A-Thons to raise money for special causes like Cancer Awareness and HIV/AIDS research.

  • Bring Your Child To Work Day - In April 2006, we participated in Bring Your Child to Work day events throughout the country. This year, one focus for children was volunteerism, diversity and being a good community neighbor. Over 300 children participated in a volunteer & diversity activity during the day.

Our commitment to education is demonstrated by a unique grants-for-schools initiative called "Earning for Learning," conducted with support from the Macy's Foundation. Schools nationwide have received more than $869,000 through employee and family volunteerism in support of academic programs. Through Macy's, Inc.'s Earning for Learning program, Macy's Logistics and Operations associates were able to earn 4 grants for schools, totaling $1,000 in 2005.

"I never imagined community involvement would be part of my job. I work with our Partners In Time community service program. In essence, I'm doing my job each day by helping in the community. It doesn't get much better than that."
