Manager of Administration "You build a team by making them partners in the business. You keep them informed of volume changes, new systems, new divisions etc. that you will be taking on and thank them for making it all possible."
 | Describe the relationship you have with your "customer?" How does this influence the contribution you make to Macy's Logistics and Operations and Macy's, Inc.? | |
Macy's Logistics and Operations has an excellent working relationship with Macy's, the vendors that we do business with and the customers that purchase jewelry via macys.com. This has led to increased sales for Macy's East and Macy's, Inc. Our volume has increased in both the merchandise going to the stores and for dot-com. It is much easier to work and give 100 percent-plus of yourself when you get along with your customers.
 | You've been recognized for your leadership as a manager. What abilities and skills make you a good leader? How have you made a difference? | |
In order to be a good leader you need to have the drive to succeed. You must be independent, be a risk taker and be willing to change systems as the need arises. It is also important to recognize the skills of the people that work for you and to thank them on a daily basis for what they have done. Without them nothing would be possible.
 | How do you build your team to provide the best working environment? | |
You build a team by making them partners in the business. You keep them informed of volume changes, new systems, new divisions, etc. that you will be taking on and thank them for making it all possible.
 | How does having a strong team foster the best service environment? | |
When people work together as a team you get the work done faster and more efficiently. Everyone is working toward the common goal of moving the merchandise to the stores quicker - thus improving service to our customer. You complete tasks more efficiently because everyone is willing to help the other person finish an order. Working together as a team makes my division a nice place to work every day. Over time, we share pride in the team's accomplishments both individually and as the Fine Jewelry Vault.
 | How do you set the example for your team? | |
I have the same high standards for the associates as I do for myself. We are here to give 100 percent plus of ourselves for our jobs. We do everything as accurately as possible because we care about what we do. Whenever someone needs assistance, we are there to help them whether they directly ask for the help or we sense that they need it.
 | In the time you've spent with Macy's Logistics and Operations what has been your greatest accomplishment? | |
My greatest accomplishment with Macy's Logistics and Operations has been the relocation of the Fine Jewelry operation. The biggest highlight was the amount of money that it saved the company by relocating to Secaucus, New Jersey. It took a lot of planning, time and action calendars to assure that everything was well thought out and the right person was assigned to execute the task. The relocation taught me that if you have the facts and figures to support proposals you can accomplish almost anything. The relocation has significantly enabled the jewelry business to grow.
 | What would you recommend to a new manager joining the company? | |
I would recommend that they be aggressive in learning all that they can about their area of responsibility - to take the initiative for this learning and not wait for it to happen. It is also very important to thoroughly understand the operation, and to understand how system changes will impact them. Be receptive to change and challenges.
