 | Why did you join Macy's Systems and Technology and why have you stayed? |  |
When I came to America, I was working for an Indian company, but decided that I'd like to learn more about the American work culture. Macy's Systems and Technology seemed to be the perfect place for me to learn. I also wanted to go back to school and Macy's Systems and Technology encourages its employees to return to school. The environment is awesome. Everyone is very friendly, it's a fun place to work and I enjoy working with my team.
| What do you enjoy most about what you do and what are your overall job responsibilities? | |
I enjoy working on different problems. By exploring each problem, I am able to expand my knowledge of various subjects. I get to work with different technologies and am challenged every day. Macy's Systems and Technology encourages out-of-the-box thinking to come up with new solutions. I am one of the lead developers for inventory systems, so I make sure they work properly. When we have a new project, I am responsible for leading it and ensuring it is completed on time.
| What contribution do you make to your division and how does this contribute to the company's overall success? | |
I am responsible for our inventory system. After I learned the system, some other key employees who had been tied to the project were able to move onto different projects. By being able to learn the inventory system, I've enabled Macy's Systems and Technology to concentrate on other projects that will benefit Macy's, Inc.
| What has been your most memorable moment since joining the company? | |
The day I won an employee recognition award will always stand out for me. The manager called a staff meeting and went over some general things. At the end of the meeting, he said that he needed to make an announcement and told everyone that he wanted to recognize me for my hard work. It made me feel so good to be appreciated and recognized by my peers.
| How has the training you've received since joining the company benefited you? | |
I have received a lot of training while I've been at Macy's Systems and Technology. Most of the training courses are relevant to my current project. I took a course about data management that I was able to immediately use on a project. The classes they offer help me to execute my job properly.
| Is community involvement important to you, have you been involved in any projects in your division and was this something you considered when joining the company? | |
When I joined Macy's Systems and Technology, I had no idea that companies contribute to the community in the way that Macy's, Inc. does. I've been working to acclimate to the new culture and community involvement is a big part of it. I look forward to the opportunity to participate in these kinds of activities.
| What do you like best about your work environment? | |
Every day when I wake up in the morning I want to work, because every day is a challenge and every day I accomplish something. You know you will be recognized if you do something good. And on top of that, the people I work with are friendly and like a family.
| What personal interests/hobbies do you have and how do you balance them with your work? | |
I love to play soccer and cricket on the weekends. During the week I go to school after work. Balancing my interests, school and work is very challenging but I know that it will pay off in the end. I'm able to do everything I need to do because I have a lot of support from my co-workers, manager and supervisor.
| What advice would you give to a new employee joining the company in a position similar to yours? What helped you establish yourself and move ahead with your career goals? | |
Try to learn the business rules as soon as you start. Be a good team member and learn to use your individual skills to benefit the team. Learn emerging technologies. At Macy's Systems and Technology, if you prove yourself, you are given additional responsibility. I work hard to earn respect from my upper management and that has helped me achieve my current position.
| What do you see in the future for Macy's, Inc. and specifically for Macy's Systems and Technology? | |
Macy's, Inc. has been the leading retailer in the United States for a long time, and I don't see that changing. Macy's Systems and Technology will help Macy's, Inc. stay on top by providing them with a sound IT infrastructure. Together Macy's Systems and Technology and Macy's, Inc. will move forward and continue to be a leading retailer.
